“So far, I am 27 pages in and I can say that I really like the way the story is laid out on the pages. It’s easy to read and a real page turner. The setup for Stormie and Purvis is keeping my interest. The power to see things is an interesting twist for the book.

Love love love all of the Colorado throwbacks. I feel like I am in Elitch Gardens as I read.”

5.0 out of 5 stars Crime Novel Must Read!Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2024

If you like crime novels and stories, this book is for you. This is the first book in years that I picked up to read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. So much, that I have Cain and plan to read the rest of the books in the series, I am hooked. The vibrant details that let you see with your mind’s eye, the characters and settings. This book was easy to read with a busy lifestyle and little free time. The chapters are shorter than most books, making it easy pick up the story right where you left off without going back to a previous chapter for review. You will also find this book hard to put down. This book was well written and has made it fun for me to read again. Thank you Dave Rhoades for an amazing book to read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Can’t put it downReviewed in the United States on February 8, 2024

This is probably the one book of Dave Rhoades that was the hardest to read and the hardest to put down. In this Stormie Lamonica entry there are not one, but two serial killers on the loose. There is Tuckus from a previous book (gotta love cliffhangers) and now The Tailor. Stormie and her partner Carlos have to put every bit of police skill, and maybe something a little extra, into finding this latest psycho.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stormie strikes again!

THE TAILOR: I had the privilege to review a galley copy of this book and provide some technical feedback related to law enforcement. First thing you need to know is that Dave Rhoades is a unique writer among his peers. He incorporates several distinct areas of fiction (procedural investigative, mystery/thriller, and supernatural nuance) and does so superbly.

I have been a fan of and followed the Stormie Lamonica series since it’s inception and they keep coming back bigger and better with each addition and the Tailor is no different.

Dave takes the time to research the subtle nuances of federal criminal investigations and asks the right questions in his quest for accuracy with technical perspectives of the job, a job I’ve done for two decades.

How he blends that with other supernatural elements and brings action and suspense and realism together in one package sets him apart from other authors.

Pick this one up … you won’t be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stormie Weather was quite clear

Reviewed in the United States

THE TAILOR: *Full disclosure* I’ve known the author for a few years now. I also enjoy these genre of books and have read them from all over the spectrum. Dave’s books are different. Just when you think you’ve settled into a comfortable series that is predictable and familiar, you realize this isn’t another mystery. It isn’t another FBI/procedural novel.

Dave’s writing has given me a new lease on reading. I was an admitted one trick pony and basically read the same series over and over again but with different authors, mostly because it was what I knew I liked.

Now that I’ve had a sampling of the fantasy/paranormal COMBINED with a well authored detective novel, I’ve found the best of both worlds! Dave takes the time to research and he puts in the work to add small nuances and details that those in the profession will pick up on and appreciate, but at the same time, he throws in some artistic license, and finds a way to blend the two perfectly.

As an added bonus, I now eat gum like a sleeping bag after reading all of his books.

You knocked it outta the park, Mr. Rhoades!

CAIN: If you like thrillers!

April 20, 2016

CAIN: At first this book reminded me of a long ago Patricia Cornwell novel I had read. Or maybe the show Criminal Minds. If you love to hate the bad guy, you will like this one. But he is a complicated man and as it unfolds you see why he became the evil man he became doing the evil deeds he does. If you like a good thriller this is the book for you. And getting to know Stormie and her side kick, the bigger than life Carlos is interesting. Can’t wait to read more in this series as the author hinted at deeper stories from their past. I like them both and really want to know more about them. The details of the crimes were thorough. Believe me I will be watching over my shoulder in dark places making sure I’m not being watched. And don’t read about Nancy’s night at home alone when you are home alone. Very chilling. The story was well wrapped up while leaving just a few loose ends for future books.

CAIN: Every book by this author has been a show-stopper and this one is no different. You are dropped straight into the action and it just never stops. I finished this book in three days while on a business trip. I was picking it up every chance I got. Having lived in several of the locations I found the descriptions spot-on. The characters were funny, eerie, engaging, creepy, and “hey I know someone like that!”. The plot twists and multiple story lines keep you guessing right up to the end. Can’t wait for the next book!

CAIN: This book kept my interest. It contain multiple story lines. The characters were well defined. I enjoyed the touches of humor. The relationship between Stormy and her partner was enjoyable. I now have a better understanding of the devastation from Hurricane Katrina and the impact on the people in that area. At first the segue into volume 2 was a little confusing until I realized that it was an intro into a future book. I can hardly wait for volume 2. I can hardly wait for the next book in this series.

CAIN: A very interesting and chilling read! The character development was fantastic. The location descriptions from Denver to New Orleans and Hurricane Katrina were so vivid – like you were right there! Looking forward to the next book in this series!

CAIN: I’ve read every book by this author and always thoroughly enjoy his books. This book has a great pace and there are never any boring lulls. It’s eerie, funny, and keeps your attention the whole way through. I highly recommend this for those who love a good thriller. It offers realism of what would happen if a serial killer were loose during a Katrina-like disaster, but artistically dances its way through without relying too heavily on excessive gore and lewdness. All around great read!

RICHELIEU: Dave did it again. What a great read! Finished it in 4 days. Book two of Zack Tucker can be read solo or as the intended follow-up to book one. Dave does a fantastic job weaving the story between multiple locations and converging them into one thread.
Being a Colorado local and flying through DIA a fair amount of times plus hearing rumors of the conspiracy theories, it was a fun read to “relate” to. I’ll be at DIA later this week and am totally going to have these scenes flashing through my mind! Looking forward to the next installment!

RICHELIEU: This second book is a continuation of the battle between good and evil. The story begins slowly but soon has you on the edge of your seat, reading as fast as you can so you can find out what happens! The descriptions are vivid, the dialogue interesting and the plot twists keep you guessing.
It can be read alone, but I highly recommend reading the first book in the series, Altar, to lay a good foundation for understanding what is happening.
