There’s a reason why they call it, “The Dumb Friends League”

Sandy is our junk yard dog.
Well, really she came from the dump out by DIA but calling her a “junk yard dog” sounds more fierce. She really is a big baby or as some around our house call her, “a big puddin’”.
She scares herself quite frequently by seeing things that aren’t there. I hear a clatter of toenails on the kitchen tile and she rounds a corner sliding like Jeff Gordon on a wet track and lands under my feet while I’m trying to watch Frazier.
We rescued her, or Steph did, from the dump, romping amidst the piles of garbage. Only at that time, Sandy didn’t romp anywhere, she was skinny, abused, misused, emaciated, timid, frightened and skinny. Did I mention she was emaciated and skinny? I know it means the same so don’t correct me.
She came to live with us quite a few years ago now and she is so much healthier, happier and loved.
But she is still dumb.
When we got her, she was completely house broken; which I don’t know if I would’ve been if I ran around in the city dump all day. But she was. She likes her routine, as we all do, in the morning. Out of Stormie’s room, she sleeps at the end of Storm’s bed, and down to the sliding glass door for her morning constitution.
We have been doing this routine now going on, maybe seven years? Jeanie could tell you, I’m not good with time nor dates.
And every day it’s the same: I implore her not to bark lest she disturb the neighbors and I open the glass sliding door only to see Sandy press face first into the screen! She always recoils like I just manufactured this thin film barrier that morning and didn’t send her the memo. Then she backs up and I open the screen and she takes off like a bat out of hell on a search and destroy for the neighbor’s cat! Barking all the way!
